Back in the Fold (I don't fully blame Kevin)

You may recall that mid-March I sent out two of our long-owned, hard-used rugs to a local carpet cleaning service along with a hand hooked rug made by my grandfather (my Pop Pop) that I'm fortunate to have in my care. A man named Kevin came to collect them and stated that they would be ready for return delivery in 9-14 days. They were returned to us a month later, two of them still damp.

Turns out one of the rugs (dating back to Knoxville) really wasn't salvageable and so it's now ready to be bulk garbage come next Friday. The other is a little rough but usable and so it's standing guard in Brie's office until an upgrade comes along.

Worth noting that it took 3 phone calls after the two week projection had passed to spur the cleaning service into some sort of action. As Kevin tells it, the worst rug needed to be cleaned multiple times as they attempted to exorcise the animal nastiness that comes with 10 years of cats and dogs and humans being utter filth. I had a feeling that would be the case and sometimes you aren't paying for the product or the service, you're paying for the lesson.

And as for the time delay and poor communication, Kevin is not to blame, his job is to deliver company projections and pick up and deliver rugs for a living in a white branded van. A man doing a job, as much a the whims of circumstance as we are. I hope he's union.

My grandfather's rug came out great! As expected it had a ton of dust collected in it, but that was easily removed and the colors are richer than I remember them ever being. That was the only piece that really ever mattered anyway. Walt and Ramona seem neutral about the whole affair.
